Abstract

The research aimed to transform the property of wool felting from a problem to a distinctive property and to benefit from it in enriching women’s clothing and producing clothing pieces that achieve functional, aesthetic and economic values by relying on Egyptian wool dyed with natural dyes, due to its availability and ease of obtaining, and it is also cheaper than Imported wools, such as merino wool. Two felting techniques were used: dry felting and wet felting, where (9) pieces of women’s clothing were made, ranging from gilets, dresses, skirts, trousers, jackets, ponchos, T-shirts, and tunics, of which (7) pieces were made using the dry felting technique, a piece of clothing using the wet felting technique, and another piece using both techniques together. An entire piece of wool clothing was produced using wet felting and it was used to be a (cape) that gives functional value (covering and warmth) in addition to its aesthetic value. The clothing pieces varied in terms of the methods of weaving them. Some of them are woven with two threads, some are woven with one thread (tricot), and some are non-woven. The thickness of the materials of the clothing pieces varies, some of which are thin, medium, and thick. The research has concluded that dry felting is less expensive and effortless and more accurate than wet felting, while wet felting is more artistic and creative than dry felting. Needle felting on thick fabrics is better than felting on thin fabrics.
