Abstract

The Role of the Listening Triangle Strategy in Theoretical Differentiation Between Some Basic Arabic Musical Maqamat

Abstract:

The current study aimed to identify the importance of the Listening Triangle Strategy in theoretically distinguishing between some basic Arabic musical maqamat among first-year students in the Music Education Department, Faculty of Specific Education, Zagazig University.

To achieve this aim, the researcher prepared an achievement test and adopted the quasi-experimental method using a two-group design (experimental and control groups) to examine the differences between the two groups and determine whether the use of the Listening Triangle Strategy has a role in enhancing the ability to distinguish between selected basic Arabic maqamat.

The research sample consisted of 30 students, who were equally divided into two groups:

• Experimental group: 15 students

• Control group: 15 students

The results of the study revealed the following:

• A statistically significant difference was found in the mean ranks of the experimental group between the pre-test and post-test, in favor of the post-test.

• A statistically significant difference was found between the post-test scores of the control and experimental groups, in favor of the experimental group.

• There was no statistically significant difference between the post-test and follow-up test scores of the experimental group, indicating retention of learning.

• The Listening Triangle Strategy proved to be effective in distinguishing between some of the basic Arabic maqamat.
