**This study aimed to explore the relationship between university youth’s use of social media networks as a source of news and their level of news literacy.** The study adopted the media survey method and was conducted on a sample of 643 male and female students from various faculties at Minia University.



The results revealed a statistically significant positive correlation between university youth’s perception of the credibility of news content on social media networks and their level of news literacy, with a Pearson correlation coefficient of (0.625) and a p-value less than (0.01). This indicates that the more youth perceive news content on social networks as credible, the higher their level of news literacy, reflecting stronger skills in accessing, analyzing, and critically evaluating news. This finding highlights a key dimension of news media literacy, which is the ability to assess and verify the credibility of news before accepting it.



The results also showed a statistically significant positive correlation between university youth’s interaction with news content on social media networks and their level of news literacy, with a Pearson correlation coefficient of (0.587) and a p-value less than (0.01). This suggests that greater interaction with news content on these platforms is associated with higher news literacy levels, indicating enhanced abilities to access, interpret, and critically engage with news content.
