Abstract

Piano duet compositions play an important educational role in developing many of the learners' mental and emotional abilities. They are considered a prelude to group playing because they are among the simplest and easiest types of playing performed by two players on one instrument.

To achieve the objectives of the current research, the descriptive approach was used to identify the artistic characteristics and playing techniques included in the piano duet pieces, Op. (12), by the Hungarian composer Karl Goldmark, and then to develop the suggested playing exercises and instructions to overcome the difficulties included in these pieces. The research also used the quasi-experimental approach with a pre-post design for one group consisting of 24 students from the fourth year; and The experimental approach was used to identify the effectiveness of piano duet pieces in improving the musical performance of the research sample, as well as to measure the effectiveness of the pieces in raising the level of academic musical skills.

The research results showed the effectiveness of piano duet pieces in improving playing performance and raising the level of academic musical skills. The researchers recommended the necessity of including piano duet compositions in the piano curricula for music education students.
