Abstract

The aim of the study was to find out the relationship between the exposure of university youth to social networks and their level of future anxiety. This descriptive study was applied using the survey method to a random sample of university youth (450 male and female students at the universities of Cairo and Minya). The study tools were a questionnaire form that included a scale for future anxiety. The researcher reached a set of results, the most important of which are the following: Facebook topped the list of social networks that the university youth in the study sample were exposed to, with an average of 3.31, followed by YouTube in second place with an average of 2.98, while in last place came Twitter with an average of 1.69. 82.3% of the study sample used social networks (daily), then those who used them (only in free time) in second place with a percentage of 13.6%, while in last place were those who used them (monthly, and several times a month) with a percentage of 0.4%, and the phrase (communicating with others and getting to know new friends) obtained first place as the most common reason for university youth to use social networks; The total score of the future anxiety scale was estimated at 0.94, which is a high score, and reflects a high level of anxiety among the study sample as a whole.
