Abstract

The current study aimed to develop the depth of learning and reduce cognitive failure among students at the Faculty of Education - Beni Suef University, and to determine the most appropriate form of interaction between the style of content organization (hierarchical/expansive) and the level of Mental Alertness in terms of their effect on the depth of learning and reducing cognitive failure. The study tools were the Depth of Learning Scale and the Cognitive Failure Scale “prepared by the researcher.” The experimental treatment material was a smart learning environment with two types of content organization (hierarchical/ expansive). The study used an experimental design (2X2), where the study sample was divided and consisted of (60( students from the College of Education were divided into four groups according to the style of content organization and level of Mental Alertness. The study concluded that there was an effect of the interaction between the style of content organization and the level of Mental Alertness on both the depth of learning and the reduction of cognitive failure among the students of the College of Education in favor of the group with a high level of Mental Alertness, which It relied on an expansive content organization pattern, The study recommended the necessity of employing learning environments that rely on artificial intelligence applications in the learning process because of their major role in improving student learning outcomes,
