The Effectiveness of M.U.R.D.E.R. Strategy in Teaching Home Economics to Develop Generative Thinking Skills, Deep Understanding Skills and Psychological Flourishing among Preparatory Stage Female Students

Abstract

The research aimed to examine the effectiveness of M.U.R.D.E.R strategy in teaching home economics to develop generative thinking skills, deep understanding skills and psychological flourishing among preparatory stage female students. The research sample (n. 60) female students was selected from the El-Masaey Old Preparatory School for Girls, in Shebin El-Kom Educational Administration, Menoufia Governorate, were divided into two groups, an experimental and a control group (n. 30) female students at each one. To achieve the aim, a Generative Thinking Skills Test, a Deep Understanding Skills Test, and a Psychological Flourishing Scale were constructed. The researchers pre- and post- applied the research instruments to the research groups. The research applied the descriptive and quasi-experimental approaches. The statistical analyses of the research data reveled the following results, there is a statistically significant difference (p. ≤ 0.01) between the the experimental and control groups mean scores in the post-application of the Generative Thinking Skills Test as a whole and its sub- skills, The Deep Understanding Skills Test as a whole and its sub-skills, and The Psychological Flourishing Scale as a whole and its sub- dimensions in favor of the experimental group students; and that there is a statistically significant positive correlation between the experimental group students' scores in the post-application of the Generative Thinking Skills Test as a whole, The Deep Understanding Skills Test as a whole, and The Psychological Flourishing Scale as a whole, which proves the effectiveness of the M.U.R.D.E.R strategy in Teaching home economics.
