Abstract

Stephen Heller, a Hungarian national, is a composer, player, and teacher of the piano. He wrote about 200 studies of the piano and began it in the year 1840 AD. His study aims to develop the rhythmic aspect, melodic phrases, and musical expression, which prompted the researcher. You think about the research topic to learn about the artistic characteristics, specifically the style of composition and playing performance in Stephen Heller’s Studies for the Piano, Classified 125, regarding expression and rhythm.

• This research aims to:

- Identifying the technical characteristics included in Stephen Heller’s piano studies, Classified 125.

- Identifying the most important difficulties and playing techniques included in the research sample studies of Stephen Heller for the piano, classified 125.

- Identify the playing instructions and suggested exercises to overcome playing difficulties to achieve good performance of piano studies by Stephen Heller, classified 125.

The research is divided into two parts:

First: The theoretical framework: It includes:

• An overview of piano studies and its development.

• Stephen Heller’s biography and his most important works for the piano.



Second: The applied framework: It includes:

• The survey study, the first part of Stephen Heller’s studies for the piano, OP 125, which consists of fourteen studies

• Theoretical and instrumental analysis of the research sample selected from the studies of Stephen Heller’s OP 125 for the piano
