Textile formulations derived from the creativity of children with Mild and Moderate Autism

Abstract

The field of clothing and textiles has become serving all special groups and meets all their requirements in terms of functionality and aesthetics, so this research has dealt with the category of children with autism (simple and medium). Through interviews with parents, the two researchers found that they have many problems, the most important of which is the ability to social adaptation, so the research problem revealed the importance of means that help reduce the problem of attention, which is how to employ some simple textile methods during learning. The research aimed to develop the capabilities of children with special needs (autism) by providing them with some weaving skills.

The research followed the descriptive approach with the application. The research sample consisted of two groups of children with autism, represented by a group of people with simple autism, numbering (5) and a group of people with moderate autism, numbering (5) children. The pre and post skill test was conducted, as the research group was chosen by one Centers for people with special needs, the scientific method to classify its pioneers from autistic children.

The experimental treatment material was represented in the implementation of a very simple piece of textile that does not require complex skills in dealing with it using woolen threads of various colors. The researchers finished the samples in a scientific and standardized manner.

The results indicated the effectiveness of using textile threads in developing simple weaving skills for children with mild and moderate autism.
