An Analytical Study of Nikolai Kapustin Jazz Compositions to Develop the Performance Skills of Piano Students

Abstract

The research is divided into first: The theoretical part: It includes previous studies related to the topic of research and concepts related to the topic of research (jazz music, author Nikolai Kapustin).

Second: the practical part: It deals with the survey forms for the experts’ opinion on the jazz pieces chosen by the researcher, the analysis of the pieces, and some instructions to overcome them.

The research concluded with the following results:

1- The analysis of the pieces led to simplify them and overcome the difficulties through playing exercises and instructions that help in playing the Kapustin pieces easily.

2- Overcoming the playing difficulties included in the pieces selected by the researcher, helps the piano learner to study and perform it.

Then the research recommendations: The researcher recommended:

- Interest in jazz music as one of the musical currents that spread in the world from the last quarter of the nineteenth century until our time.

Inclusion of Kapustin's compositions in the pre-master's graduate piano curricula will provide students with modern techniques of playing.

- Attention and focus on modern works, as they shed light on modern techniques in jazz music for the piano.

Then the research ended with references, Arabic and foreign references, and then a summary of the research.
