Academic Social Networks use among faculty members and its impact on knowledge sharing within the university environment: field study

Abstract

The research aims to describe and discover the role of the use of academic social networks in the service of knowledge sharing within the university environment by identifying the degree and importance of their use, and the most commonly used networks, focusing on some sub-variables such as gender and academic degree, and applying the research to (100) of the faculty members in the faculties and departments of mass communication in the Egyptian universities were chosen intentionally (55)males, (45)females, (16 professors), (21assistant professors), (28 teachers), (35 assistant teachers and teaching assistants), in the period from (23) June to (22) July 2022.
The most important results were that the percentage of the sample’s use of academic communication networks always (42.00%), sometimes (43.00%), and rarely (15.00%), while non-use did not get any percentage, and academic networks were significantly important at (53%). ), the most important academic networks preferred to visit were Researchgate, then Academy.edu, then Mendelely, and finally Linked In, and it was found that there was a direct statistically significant relationship at (0.01) between the use of academic networks by faculty members in faculties and media departments in Egyptian universities and the degree of knowledge sharing within the environment. It was also found that there between the categories of (Professor - Teaching Assistant), (Assistant Professor - Teaching Assistant) and (Assistant Professor - Assistant Teacher) in the use of networks and enhancing knowledge participation, while there were no statistically significant differences in use between males and females.
