The role of the cello in Johann Pachelbel's Canon & gigue

Abstract

Johann Bachelbel, the German composer, is considered one of the most important composers in the middle Baroque era. The name of Khalil is (Canon in D) and it was his most popular work ever and he wrote it for the string quartet (first violin - second violin - third violin and cello). Some authors have made different formulations of the canon (first violin - second violin - viola - cello), ( Cello-piano), which is suitable for the different levels of the players, and here we will discuss two of them with study and analysis. Each of them played a different role, which prompted her to shed light on the role of the cello in this work, and this research aims to identify the author's biography and the playing techniques in the various formulations of the author of Canon in the great irrigation and shed light on the role of the cello in These formulations, and the study followed the description method (content analysis) for the research sample. The research included the theoretical framework represented in the author’s biography, then presented the applied framework represented by the analytical study of the research sample, then presented the research results, recommendations and references, and the summary in Arabic and English.
