Adolescents’ attitudes towards videos presented through the “Tik Tok” application and its relationship to their awareness of media education standards.

Abstract

The current study aimed to monitor the volume and intensity of adolescents’ use of the Tik Tok application, and to know the relationship between adolescents’ perception of the concept of media education and their attitudes towards the videos presented through the “Tik Tok” application, and to identify the patterns and motives for adolescents’ exposure to these videos, which is a descriptive study that was applied using the survey method on a sample. A random sample of (417) adolescents, males and females, in the preparatory and secondary education stages. The study tools consisted of a survey sheet that included a scale of attitudes consisting of (30) phrases that varied between positive and negative (prepared by the researcher), and a scale for media education standards, and the study found a high The percentage of respondents who are exposed to videos presented through the “Tik Tok” application in a (permanently) manner, with a percentage of (40.8 %), and that the vast majority of respondents believe that the videos presented on the application do not comply with the standards of media education, in addition to that more than half of the study sample (They do not trust) in the content presented via short videos on Tik Tok, and their percentage (61.6%) also proved that there is a correlation A statistically significant inverse between the intensity of exposure of adolescents in the research sample to videos presented via "Tik Tok" and the extent of their awareness of media education standards.
