Patterns of university youth interaction with social media news and its relationship to their attitudes toward some Egyptian issues

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the patterns of university youth interaction with social media news and their relationship to their attitudes towards some Egyptian issues. The study reached several results, the most important of which are that: University youth use social networking sites with a high intensity, and they interact with them to a moderate degree, and that is all sites and applications, especially WhatsApp and Facebook, They follow the news of these sites in order to get acquainted with the latest news, and to understand the reality and Egyptian societal issues, although these young people trust the news of these sites to a moderate degree, and young people have great experience in using these sites. The results also indicated that there were no statistically significant differences in the degree of university youth’s tendency towards Egyptian issues covered by social media news, according to their patterns of use of those sites, in addition to the absence of a difference in the intensity of social media use according to some demographic variables (gender, place of residence, economic level).
