Abstract

Practical criticism is concerned with the study and analysis of a literary work without resorting to interpretations from outside the analyzed text. Muhammad Mandour's critical experience of Shawky's Theater was characterized by revealing the limits of his critical awareness and the extent of his ability to mix theoretical criticism together with Practical criticism.
The present research reviews the features of Practical criticism for Muhammad Mandour,in the light of an application to Shawqi's plays and his general opinion of criticism, and his intellectual transformations among various critical doctrine. The research also deals with the study and analysis of the features and characteristics of theater according to Ahmed Shawky, especially in his choice of themes from the Arab heritage, his preoccupation with the issues of his nation and his Arabism, and the extent of his commitment to the rules and principles of dramatic work, while putting Shawky’s drama and poetry on the evaluation scale.
And if this study is concerned with Practical criticism on Shawki’s theatre, it also looks at the scientific criteria of criticism according to Muhammad Mandour, in order to highlight the important theoretical aspects to him, and to rediscover Shawky’s theatrical text on the grounds that criticism is the art of distinguishing styles, and this is what Mandour was interested in.
