Wife's strategies of managing family affairs during the Covid-19 pandemic crisis

Abstract

The current study aims at reconnoitering wife’s schemes of managing household affairs and the potential psychological implications that might occur during the Covid-19 pandemic crisis on her and family. To achieve these aims, the following tools were prepared (1) a general data form of the family, (2) questionnaires on sources on getting information on Covid-19 pandemic, (2) questionnaires on wife’s procedures to protect family against this pandemic, (3) questionnaires on family income management (setting goals - planning - organizing - implementation - evaluation), (4) questionnaires on household management strategies during Covid-19 crisis (managing children's time - Children’s participation in houseworks- paying attention to children's academic achievement - Children’s stubborn while staying home from schools) and (5) impacts of this pandemic crisis on wife’s psycology-somatic balance (well-being - stress - depression - life satisfaction). This study depends on the responses of 353 wives from different socio-economic levels across the countrysides and cities of Qalyubia governorate and data analyses followed a descriptive analetical one. The key results showed that the highest percentage of the participants (21.81%) got their information on COVID-19 from medical sites while more than 40% of the participants obtained unvarified information from social networks, family and friends. Cleaning and disinfection protocols of surfaces improved significantly in families of higher educational levels for both husband and wife. Management of family income and affairs were also affected significantly by Covid-19 pandemic crisis and these consequently affect negatively mother’s feelings of depression and stresses while decreased her feelings of life satisfaction.
