The Effect of Enrichment of Chemistry Syllabus by Skills of Equalizing the Chemical Reaction on Academic Achievement of 9th Graders

Abstract

 This study was aimed to find out the effect of the enrichment of chemistry syllabus by skills of equalizing the chemical reaction on academic achievement of students in the ninth class in a female school. To obtain the objective of the study , a prior testing of achievement was built by five question that explain the main skills of the students in determining and equalizing the chemical reaction. This was applied on all students of the ninth grade in the school (which is the target sample). The enriching material prepared by the educational supervisory committee of science which was prepared in accordance with the specific standards by two lessons a week in the second semester and through follow up , and class visiting of the head master was introduced.
After the end of introducing the enriching material the test was applied again as a following post one. The data was collected and analyzed in accordance with statistical methods. The results of the study obtained by the application of the study procedures and the use of suitable statistical processing explained a clear effect to enrich the chemistry science syllabus and to activate the skills of scientific thinking and its application in chemical reaction equalizing leading to raising of the academic achievement medium. This was obviously realized through the discussion of the hypothesis of the study .
The results of experimenting the study hypothesis explained that: there are differences of  a statistical indication at the Significance level of (α = 0.05) between performance average of the pre and post test due to processing. These differences are due to the enrichment of chemistry syllabuses by introducing the enriching material. The average grades of students in the post test was (79) which is much more than the averages in the pre-test. And by applying Chi-  square test, these differences showed a statistical indication.
