The Electronic Social Communication as Related to Social Alienation and Self-Esteem Al Jouf University

Abstract

The current study aims to identify and recognize the relationship between the social media websites on the internet and both of social – alientation and self – esteem in a sample of female students at Al Jouf University in Saudi Arabia.
The sample of the current study was purposive and consisted of 150 female students from various departments such as "English, Kindergarten and IT" in AlJouf University in Gurayyat governorate. The Social Survey (SS), and Data Collection Questionnaire (DCQ) were designed, used and conducted by the researcher.
The results of this study revealed that there was a positive relationship between the social media websites on the internet and social – alientation and the indications of questionnaire asserted this positive relationship. The results also showed the serious effectiveness of the social media websites on the purposive sample as they abandoned their families, relatives and societies and suffered from social – alientation . There was a perfect correlation between social – alientation and self – esteem and it was clear that self – esteem increased with the female students who use the social media websites on the internet.
Counseling sessions and seminars for an ideal usage of the social media websites on the internet should be held frequently, rationalizing the usage of these websites should be given a due care, valuable and goal oriented groups should be launched on the internet webpages and websites and the families play an important role to observe and protect their members.
