Management of family stress and its relation to the trend towards smoking and its practice in a sample of smokers in the governorate of El-Bihara

Abstract

    This study was conducted to study the relationship between the management of family stress and the trend towards smoking and its practice in a sample of smokers in the governorate of El-Bihara, consisting of 152 smokers from different ages and different social, economic and educational levels selected by chance and the analytical descriptive method has been used.
The results show the high level of smoking practice among the sample and also it showed that there was no correlation between family stress management and the trend towards smoking. Furthermore, the results show a statistically significant negative correlative relationship between the management of the research sample of family stress and the practice of smoking. The results also show statistically significant differences in management of economic family stress according to the age of the respondents in favor of the age from 50 to less than 60 years
 The results also indicate that there were statistically significant differences in family stress according to the monthly income level in favor of 4000 pounds per month or more. Moreover, the results show differences in the management of economic family stress according to the social situation in favor of two categories the first one is married and not reliable and the second is widowed. The results also show statistically significant differences in the practice of smoking according to marital status in favor of married and reliable group, while the results do not result in statistically significant differences in the management of family stress according to the level of education.
 
The researcher recommends the need to raise awareness about how to manage the family stress for  different age groups because of its positive effects on mental and physical health and reflected on the family and the community as a whole. She also recommends carrying out awareness campaigns, health education and religious guidance roaming schools and universities to educate young people the disadvantages of smoking and all its types.
