Choice Determinants of the Life Partner and its Relationship to the Cultural Identity of the Youth

Abstract

The objective of this study is to evaluate the choice determinants of the life partner and the effect of the cultural identity of youth on these determinants through a set of sub- objectives including: identifying the choice determinants levels of the life partner for youth sample of study with its aspects, cultural identity for youth sample of study and with its aspects. Studying the correlation between some variables of the socioeconomic level of youth sample of study, the choice determinants of the life partner, the cultural identity and for them.  Interpretation of the impact of the cultural identity and of the youth sample of study on the choice determinants of their life partner. Explaining the differences between the youth study sample in the choice determinants of the life partner, the cultural identity and according to the place of residence (Aswan - Menoufia) (rural - urban), mother's work (working-  non- working), type of study (theoretical - practical) and sex (male - female). The study tools included: the general data form, the questionnaire of the criteria for choosing the life partner, the questionnaire of the youth cultural identity. The research was conducted on a sample of (262) male and female students enrolled in Menoufia and Aswan universities from different socio-economic levels.  The most important results of the study included: there is a statistically significant positive correlation at 0.001, 0.01 and 0.05 between the choice determinants of the life partner, father's level of education, mother's level of education, student's age, family income, father's age, whereas there is no correlation between the choice determinants of the life partner and the number of family members and the mother's age. There is a statistically significant positive correlation at 0.001 and 0.05 between cultural identity and father's educational level, mother's educational level, student's age, family income, father's age, whereas there is no correlation between the cultural identity and the number of family members and the mother's age. There is a statistically significant positive correlation at 0.001, 0.01 and 0.05 between the choice determinants of partner and father's educational level, mother's educational level, student's age, family income, father's age, mother's age, whereas there is no correlation between the choice determinants of partner and number of family members. There is a statistically significant positive correlation at 0.001 between the choice determinants of the life partner with its eight aspects, the cultural identity in its eight aspects. Among the most important recommendations of the research: holding seminars and workshops for young people to raise awareness of globalization and support of identity and the establishment of civil society and youth to follow up the challenges faced by young people from the conflict of identity and its impact on the determinants of choice of life partner and the formation of a family.
