The Effectiveness of a Bibliotherapy in Facing Shyness among Al- Jouf University Undergraduate Students

Abstract

The current study aimed to reveal the effectiveness of a bibliotherapy in facing shyness among Al- Jouf University Students. The sample of the study consisted of (32) female students in the education faculty in Al-Jouf University during the year 2016/2017, were distributed randomly to two groups: an experimental group of (16) female students, provided a reader's guide prepared by the researcher for bibliotherapy, and the control group of (16) female students hasn't been processed. The prior application of the measure of shyness was applied to female students; high-grade students were selected on the shyness scale, and then distributed the female students in the control and experimental groups. The results of the study showed there were statistically significant differences in level of shyness among the female students attributed to the group, in favor of the control group, the level of shyness was higher than that of the experimental group, and this confirms the effectiveness of the bibliotherapy program in reducing the sense of shyness among female students in the experimental group. The researcher recommended the generalization of the idea of implementation and application such therapeutic programs on other psychological problems to improve their mental health, and execution studies to examine the effectiveness of cognitive and behavioral programs in reducing the level of shyness among students.
