Abstract

This research explores an innovative approach to teaching adult beginners to play the piano, drawing on the pedagogical methods of Denes Agey and Michael Aaron. Recognizing that adult learners have unique needs, goals, and learning preferences distinct from those of younger students, the study aims to develop a modern and effective instructional strategy tailored to adults. By analyzing and comparing the core principles, progression systems, and pedagogical strategies found in Agey’s and Aaron’s instructional materials, the researcher identifies complementary strengths in both methods. Using a descriptive content analysis approach, the study synthesizes these strengths to design a new method that enhances skill development, motivation, and musical understanding for adult beginners. The ultimate goal is to improve learners’ performance levels, address common challenges, and modernize teaching practices in line with contemporary adult education needs. This research is conducted during the 2024–2025 academic year at Ain Shams University’s Department of Music Education.
