Abstract

Line is the basis of drawing for artists, and its use is not limited to defining spaces only, but is also used to define different shaded areas. Lines are the guide that leads the eye in the painting, and they have the ability to express several feelings and meanings, such as comfort, relaxation, confusion or movement according to their types. The line is also considered, without dispute, the first element in the language of visual formation. A single line on a white surface can create a relationship with the painting’s space and confirm it. If this line divides the space into two proportional spaces, it will create harmony, balance and harmony. However, if the two spaces are disproportionate, this will create dynamic tension. If a second line is placed opposite this line, a conversation and dialogue will be generated between them. If we change the lengths of these two lines and the degree of inclination of each of them, we will obtain an infinite number of relationships and rhythms. If the two lines intersect, a conflict will arise. If we add other lines, the relationships will become more complex and branched. The line can also create an intertwined group of harmonious and conflicting relationships between parallel lines, sometimes divergent and sometimes intersecting, and how these lines create accumulated levels and depth for the painting’s space.
